CanMNT-eligible players to keep an eye on
News of Tesho Akindele’s Canada snub (update: cancel that) means he’s just the latest in a long line of players to reject our national team’s advances, but there’s hope for the future. Bryan Cristante may be a long-shot for Canada’s MNT, but other eligible players like QPR’s David Hoilett could help on the road to the 2018 World Cup in Russia (update: and he will).
The all-province XIs
Quebec’s participation in a non-FIFA tournament recently inspired Jonah Freedman at MLS to have a look at what kind of teams each US state could put out. Along the same lines, I’ve been thinking about how the Canadian pro teams would look if they were limited to players from their province, and now seems like a good time to get it down.
